Community rules

Howdy New Caney works because neighbors help each other. These rules cover Ask a Neighbor, event threads and reviews.
Who can post
Anyone can read Howdy. Posting questions, answers, event thread posts and reviews is for neighbors 18 and older with an account. The first time you ask, answer or post in an event thread, we ask you to confirm your age.
Be kind
Talk to neighbors the way you would at the feed store. Disagree with the idea, not the person. No insults, threats, harassment or hate of any kind.
Keep it local and useful
Ask a Neighbor is for questions about places and services around town. Event threads are for the event: parking, carpooling, lost and found, and questions for other people going. Stay on topic, and no politics.
No selling
No ads, sales pitches or links to your own business in posts. Businesses can’t answer questions about themselves or post reviews of their own business or a competitor’s. If you own a business, a free page and paid add-ons are the way to reach neighbors, and every paid spot is labeled.
Keep personal info private
Don’t post anyone’s home address, phone number, email, license plate or photos of them without their OK, including your own. For a carpool or a lost item, make plans in the thread without sharing where you live.
Honest answers and reviews
Recommend places from your own experience. No posts you were paid or rewarded for, and nothing made up.
How posts go up
A person on the Howdy team reads every new question, answer and event thread post before neighbors see it. You’ll see your own post right away, marked waiting for review. We don’t edit what you write; a post either goes up as written or doesn’t. Event threads open a week before the event and close a day after.
Reporting a post
If an event thread post breaks these rules, use Report under it. For anything else, including a review, email hello@howdynewcaney.com. The team looks at it again and either keeps it or takes it down. Reports are private, and the person who posted isn’t told who reported it.
When rules are broken
We take down posts that break these rules. Accounts that keep breaking them can be closed. Anything illegal or threatening may be passed to law enforcement.
